Globally, interaction with customers and suppliers is increasingly web based, placing more demands on the telecommunication and network infrastructure at a time when CIOs are challenged to reduce costs.
Given the complexity of telecommunications and network services (TNS) and the associated quickening pace of technological change, there is a growing divergence between the expertise needed to manage the TNS portfolio and the expertise needed to run the core business of a bank, a large retailer, a government department, a multinational manufacturer or any other major organisation.
TNS within any large organisation can typically account for 20-25% of the total cost of IT ownership. The agenda needs to be managed in a strategic way.
It is inappropriate to bundle the TNS service catalogue into a larger IT deal as this precludes the benefits that can otherwise be achieved by working with best-of-breed TNS vendors.
At Hudson & Yorke, we believe it makes more sense to aggregate the demand for TNS and to purchase a bespoke outsourced or managed service from one or more best-of-breed vendors.
