Our insights on the latest telecommunications issues in telecommunications managed services

Telecommunications within any large organisation needs to be managed in a strategic way.

Running the telecommunications portfolio in-house on purely tactical terms and on the basis of commodity pricing is an increasingly outdated concept for large organisations. Given the growing complexity of voice, data and mobile services and the associated quickening pace of technological change, there is an ongoing divergence between the expertise needed to manage the telecommunications portfolio and the expertise needed to run the core business of a bank, a large retailer, a government department, a multinational manufacturer or any other major organisation.

Further, given the high levels of telecommunications expenditure within many large organisations, it is inappropriate to bundle the telecommunications portfolio into a larger IT deal as this precludes the benefits that can otherwise be achieved by working with best-of-breed telecommunications vendors.

At Hudson & Yorke, we believe it makes more sense to aggregate the demand for telecommunications across the organisation and to purchase a bespoke outsourced or managed service from one or more best-of-breed vendors.

Such an approach can deliver real business benefits that would otherwise be difficult, if not impossible, to achieve:

All this should be delivered in a flexible contract framework which ensures a continuing match to business objectives and incorporates future benefits from technology innovation.
